QTimmer
QTimmer is a modern classroom timer designed to help teachers and students stay on track during lessons, exams and presentations. Unlike a simple stopwatch, it offers a rich set of features tailored for school environments. You can choose from several themed backgrounds, select calming background audio, and pick the alarm sound that best fits your classroom – from subtle beeps to bells and gongs. QTimmer is built to run smoothly on old smartboard hardware and modern devices alike, thanks to its lightweight design and responsive layout.
The timer supports quick presets for common durations (5, 10, 15, 30 and 60 minutes) so you can start an activity with a single tap. For custom times, our numeric keypad allows you to enter up to six digits that automatically format into hh:mm:ss. Pressing a digit repeatedly cycles through seconds, tens of seconds, minutes, tens of minutes and hours, so you can quickly set complex durations without typing colons. Alternatively, enter your own time in the Custom Duration box in hh:mm:ss format.
In Advanced Mode, QTimmer reveals additional controls. You can set a custom title for the timer (useful for naming quizzes or activities) and select a background audio loop. Choose Hum for a low focus tone, White Noise for gentle static, or Calm for a soothing ambient track. A volume slider lets you adjust the audio without changing your system volume. When the countdown reaches zero you will hear the alarm you selected – a simple beep, a traditional bell, a soft chime, a buzzing tone or a dramatic gong. You can preview each alarm with the Test button.
QTimmer also supports Teacher Codes to streamline recurring activities. A teacher code contains a subject name, a duration, a teacher name and an optional description and icon. When a teacher enters their code, QTimmer automatically fills in the title, sets the correct time and displays the teacher’s avatar or subject icon. This feature makes it easy to reuse standardised timers for exams and lessons without exposing the codes publicly – only the teacher knows their code. To add or change codes, edit the subjects.js file on your server and place any referenced images in the images/ folder.
We designed QTimmer with accessibility and customisation in mind. Large, high‑contrast numerals ensure everyone can read the countdown from across the classroom. The dark theme reduces glare on bright projectors, while the accent colours provide clear visual cues. For users with different preferences, the Themes page offers multiple colour palettes (Default, Calm Blue, Rain and Forest). Selecting a theme updates the colours across all pages and is saved in your browser for future visits.
Do I need to download anything to use QTimmer? No. QTimmer runs entirely in your web browser and can be used offline once loaded. Simply visit the site and it will work on your laptop, tablet, smartphone or smartboard.
Can I use QTimmer for exams? Yes. The countdown is accurate to the second and the alarm is loud enough to notify the entire class. For added security, use the Full Screen button to prevent distractions and ensure the timer occupies the entire display.
Does QTimmer collect any personal data? No. QTimmer does not track users, store data on our servers or require an account. All settings (like your chosen theme) are saved locally in your browser. You can learn more in our Privacy Policy.
How do I report a bug or suggest a feature? We welcome feedback from teachers and students. Please visit the Contact page for information on how to get in touch.
